Week 38 - Could be any day now

I know that it has been a long time between posts, and I haven't been as diligent at taking pictures this time around, however I do have one for you today.

I'm measuring a little smaller than last time, with Cooper I always measured 1 week ahead, and with this little girl I'm measuring 1 week behind. Compared to last time I do feel smaller, but I feel more tired, the 18 month old might have something to do with that.

What do you think? Any difference???

Yep, baby #2 is a girl. Now we'll have one of each!

Overdue Update

I'm sure that most of you get my updates from Facebook and Twitter but I wanted to officially update the blog world.

We are expecting our second child in November!

We are very excited by this and everything is going according to plan. Here I am at 15 weeks.

Now for the house update. We have grass in the side yard, new asphalt on the driveway, the deck out back has been enclosed and is safe for Cooper to play in, and we got a new BBQ.

Mike is awesome at putting this kind of stuff together, and we enjoyed burgers from it last night.

Inside the house not much has changed, but I'm starting to plan the change in rooms, As Cooper will be moving to a big boy room. I'll have to start clearing it out soon.

I have no kitchen

We officially no longer have a kitchen, well there is the one downstairs still. Upstairs looks completely different now. Soon the outside will be finished and the real work starts. Electrical, plumbing, insulation, drywall, flooring, painting, kitchen, etc... I think you get the idea. Take a look ......

There are so many new things going on the Hazen household this year, along with the new baby we are adding on to our house.

Arrival of Cooper James Hazen

I started writing this post about 10 times but didn't get a version that I liked, and didn't really have time to figure out what I wanted to say. So now this post is totally late but I hope you can forgive me. Enjoy!

On the 22nd of March at about 3pm Cooper James Hazen arrived into this world. I'm sure most of you have already heard about this from all the other sources but here is the office blog post and story.

It all started on Sunday night while we were watching New Moon, just at the part where Jacob takes off his shirt, bam, I was doubled over with contractions. They came on quick and strong. Mike was really great and took very good care of me, got me water, rubbed my back, and got the heating pad. After an hour of this the pain was so intense that we decided to head to the hospital, since it is a 40 minute drive.

We arrived at the hospital around 7pm and my water broke just after we got there. I was thinking that things were progressing just great, except for the pain I was having between contractions... The pain became so bad so quickly I requested (and I mean screamed) to have some drugs. So I had some Fentnal (not sure about spelling) and then I had an Epidural. Because of this my progress then slowed down a lot. I was hooked up to lots of monitors which Mike watched all night long. He seemed most interested in the baby's heart beat monitor. I got some rest, but not really sleep, and I don't think Mike got any either.

My doctor came back to check on my in the morning as she had been expecting to get a call during the night to come in for delivery. However I was only 8 cms along (for those of you that don't know you have to be 10 cms to deliver). By 11am I was fully dilated and ready to push. The next 4 hours are kind of a blur, as if the previous 18 weren't. After 4 hours of pushing he still didn't want to come out. The specialist was called and options were discussed. We decided to try the suction first even though there was only a 50% chance of it working. This did get him much closer but not out. The next suggestion was forcepts, which the doctor couldn't remember the last time they were used. But that did it and a quick snip later he was out.

Sometime during this last 1/2 hour many people arrived at our room, from pediatric specialist to additional nurses. I think there was about 12 plus Mike and I, a little overwhelming. But they checked him out and everything was fine, 10 fingers and 10 toes. And boy did he have some lungs, at least I think he was loud.

Mike and I were so happy and couldn't believe that he had arrived, our little Cooper James Hazen.

Week 39 - No baby yet

There is no baby yet, but there has been progress. I pretty sure he has dropped. I've heard you are supposed to feel a relief in your lungs and stomach area, but he is still kicking pretty hard there. But he is definitely sitting lower. I've been keeping busy all week and thinking good thoughts about getting things started. Since my actual due date is Thursday I'm sure I'll be discussing options for inducing this week if nothing gets going. Any tips on natural ways?

Week 38 - Home

Well I've been home for over a week now and getting into the swing of sleeping in, relaxing on the couch watching TV, and generally doing nothing. I'm keeping up on some house work and stuff, but getting lots of time to relax.

Here I am just after my hair cut.

At our doctor's appointment last week she said he was dropping, but has not dropped. So we are probably a couple weeks away at this point. I have another appointment on Thursday so we will see if there is any update.

I feel like I have everything ready for baby to show up, but not sure I'm ready for labour yet. Still trying to work myself up to that ....

Week 36 - Olympics and other fun

I can't believe the Olympics are over. Mike and I watched about every second that we could. I feel like I've lost 2 weeks of my life to the TV ... I am super impressed with how the Canadians did in all events, and really enjoyed the ups and downs. Go Canada Go!

On Friday of last week my work had a baby shower for me. Mike was invited too as which was really nice of them. One of the ladies organizing told me there was going to be some sort of game, you can see the skepticism on my face.

Ah, what kind of game?

Each of us had a baby (a doll) with a diaper on and we had to see who could change them the fastest.

Ready, Set, Go!

Mike decided that he needs a head start so he threw my doll across the room.

The other thing we were not told was that there was "poop" in the diaper, melted Glosette raisins, Mike made quiet a mess.

I was laughing so hard I could barley do anything, and Mike thought he would check out the "poop".

I think Mike still needs some instructions on how to hold a baby and how to change them.

After all that I was ahead, until Mike cheated again and took my diaper.

And the race to the finish line is on...

Mike ended up winning, but he cheated twice, and was making me laugh so hard I couldn't do anything. So I think that I won.........

After that excitement we opened gifts.

Then we had cake!

Week 34 - More classes

A few weeks ago Mike and I started taking Prenatal classes, along with Doug and Jen. Overall I think the classes were very helpful and had lots of information. However I was surprised at the age of the material for the class, it looked like everything was from the 80's, like when I was born. You think with the amount of Prenatal classes they offer they could come up with some funds for new materials. I think I might even write the Continuing Education program and let me know how out of date their poster, videos, and other materials. The books and handouts were update to date, thank goodness.

Enough of that, how about a picture?

Whoa, I'm getting big.

Last weekend I had 2 baby showers in one day. The first one was a Virtual Baby Shower, hosted by Gnat from BarkNknit. I belong to the online knitting group for this podcast and some of the ladies in the group sent me stuff.

Really nice stuff!!!

Second I headed over to Andrea's place where the rest of the Kelowna family and some of my in-town friends were. Andrea had organized a bunch of really fun games, including measuring how big my belly is, and guessing the flavours of baby food. Which are all really gross by the way, I'll be making my own food like everyone suggested.

Week 32 - I've been showered

with gifts!!!!!

My lovely SIL and MIL threw a wonderful shower for the baby last weekend. There was a great turn out from both sides of the family and some friends too. There were games, lots of advice, and even a cupcake cake. We got so many wonderful and thoughtful things from clothes to baby wipes and even a rocking chair that was Mike's when he was little. I'm sorry I don't have any pictures for you but I will try to get some this week.

Week 29 - Baby's room

The babies room is starting to look like a room for a baby..... While Mike's parents were up here over the Christmas break we did a lot of shopping and we got all the big stuff, crib, dresser/change table, car seat, stroller. Now we just need the little things, diapers, clothes, sheets, etc.

Been awhile

I know, I know it has been awhile since I posted last, and I could give you all sorts of excuses about being busy around Christmas and such. But really I just didn't have much to say.

However this week I have lots to say. First off ...

MERRY CHRISTMAS!!!

Here I am at 28 weeks, yep, that bump is getting big.

I've been feeling lots of movement everyday, and he has started to keep me up at night, sometimes. However I'm still feeling really lucky about how great I have been feeling.

A couple of weeks ago we got our Christmas Tree all set up (thanks Wes for getting one for us). It is really nice to have a real tree, but the branches don't hold up like the fakes ones, so they are a little droopy.

While hanging out at home, getting this organized before Christmas I've been sporting my new shirt. Now that I can fill it out. (sorry the photo is reversed, I took it in the mirror.)

This year for Christmas we decided to stay home instead of driving down to the coast. We missed our family dearly and all the celebrations. However we did enjoy the time we spent together. This is the first time we had Christmas morning in our our place. Santa found us, of course, and we got lots of good stuff. Here is Mike enjoying the Hockey magazine he got.

Next we went up to the Hospital to visit Bill (Mike's Dad) and take him some "real" coffee. He was in very good spirits and is very excited to see my belly growing. He is busy coming up with names for the little guy, some of which are great ones!

Dinner on Christmas was a delicious ham that Mike prepared in the slow cooker, along with his homemade creamed corn (nothing like the canned stuff). Mike's parents drove up that day and we were so happy to see them. And they brought gifts, in fact they brought gifts for baby. He isn't even here yet and he got more stuff than everyone else combined. It was mostly clothes but I hear they go through lots of those, and there were different sizes too.

I hope that everyone had a wonderful Christmas as I know we did.

Week 25 - Part 1

I've finally got my camera working with the computer, and the computer is setup back in the office again! Can I tell you how wonderful my hubby is, and how much hard work he has done? Well, I think I just did, so yeah, he is wonderful and yeah, he has worked really hard to get this all done, just how I want it.

So here is the picture from 24 weeks, the one that I said I would get up last week. And in part 2 I will have the picture from this week!

So I guess you would like an update on the reno's so far?

Week 23/24 - where have the weeks gone

The baseboards are now in, after a weekend of hard work, thanks Mikey you're the best! Also thanks to Jen and Doug who let us borrow their table saw, way better than hand cutting them all, thanks guys!!! On Friday the painter starts his work, it will take a few days but then everything will look brand new.

I'm having trouble getting pictures off my camera so I think I need to charge the battery. I'll try again tonight to see if I can get a picture uploaded. Other than the fact that I'm growing like crazy nothing new to report, which is good. That's all I've got for now, sorry not that interesting.

Week 22 - We have new carpet

I love the new carpet, so soft and squishy!! Next baseboards and then paint. Only 2 more weeks until everything is ready to go, well, until we can put everything back, and think about adding baby stuff!

Week 21 - It's snowing!

I think it is officially winter here as it is currently snowing, or it was when I started writing this post. I can't wait until next year when our little boy will be outside playing in the snow. I think that my belly has finally popped out but still feel bigger all around vs just out.

Yesterday we went to Babies R Us to look at cribs, strollers, and car seats. I think we found some that we like but how do you know for sure.

What do you think? Do you have specific things you look for?

Room update: Carpet will be done by the end of the month, paint after that.

Week 20 - Halfway There

I know that you don't deliver right on your due date but I'm now approximately halfway through. This week's photo is a little fuzzy, but I think you get the idea.

If you look closely you can see the band-aid where I got my H1N1 vaccine. I got both the seasonal and H1N1 shot, at the same time, like one in each arm. Ouch! My arm is pretty sore but other than that I'm doing fine. The weirdest part of it all was that they ask you to stay 15 minutes after you have your shot to make sure you don't have a bad reaction. Good thing I had my knitting with me.

We got the rooms measured for the carpet this week and I hope to get it installed soon.

I guess you all want to see pictures of the little baby growing inside me right? Well, here you go. Oh, and it is a boy!

Everything looks good from the ultrasound and my measurements are all right on. At my last doctor's appointment the baby's heart rate was 150 bpm, nice and strong.

Tomorrow we are heading out early to see some friends in Vancouver, I'm really excited to show off my bump, is that weird?

Week 18 - Tomorrow's going to be a good day

Tomorrow is our first ultrasound and I'm so excited. I hope to be able to see the heart beating and possibility some movement. We will have to see what kind of angle I can get.

Here is the weekly picture update, I think I'm starting to actually show, ish.

We have been talking more about what to do with the bed rooms, carpet and paint and such. I think we have picked both now we just have to order them.

This week we are also getting the sewer connected, no more weird smells from the toilet...

I have a doctor's appointment later today and will get to hear the heartbeat again, so excited.

Week 14 - sorry I missed a week

I'm sorry that I didn't post anything last week, it slipped my mind as we were so busy with other stuff going on around here.

I have started wearing the mat clothes that I have gotten, the ones I bought and the ones I got from others (thanks Kim and Nicole). At this point it is kind of nice to be wearing new clothes, it is kind of like having a new wardrobe.

Mike thinks that my tummy is sticking out a lot, but I think I'm still just thicker than I was before. But there is no question that things are a changing.

Week 12 - We have a heart beat

This was an exciting week for Mike and I. At our 12 week doctor's appointment not only did I get a full check up but we got to hear the heart beat. Mike used his fancy iPhone to record it. You can hear it here.

So here is the weekly update picture. I really can't do up the top button of my pants, and am using the belly band everyday.

Week 11 - I got new clothes

Well, there it is. My stomach. There is no hiding it anymore. Luckily while Bob and Valli were up this weekend Valli and I got a chance to go shopping. We went to a great store called Motherhood in Orchard Park Mall. The ladies there were so helpful and didn't try to up sell. With Valli's expert fashion advice I picked out 5 tops and a pair of jeans. We also decided while we were out we might as well go to Lululemon, right? I got a new sweatshirt, top and pants! I love getting new clothes, it always spurs me to clean out my old clothes that I'm not using anymore. I now have 2 bags of stuff going to charity, and 1 bucket of clothes I will wear again, one day...

Mike didn't get any news clothes but his side of the closet looks more organized...

Tomorrow I have a checkup with the doc. She will be checking many things that I'm sure will be uncomfortable but we will also get to listen to the heart beat. YAY! I'm hoping to get Mike to record it so we can listen over and over and over.

All else is going well as I approach the end of the first trimester.

Week 10 - I'm tired

It might have been the days upon days of traveling but I'm tired. I went to bed at 9pm last night, I can't remember the last time we did that. I could use a whole day of sleep and house work to catch up, but the next 3 nights will have to do. On our trip we had a chance to go the the Outlet mall in Burlington. They have a Carter's there, the cheaper brand of Oshkosh. We found lots of good stuff, but had to search high and low for it. The store is divided up into the girls section and boys section. I'm not even far enough along to know one way or the other... so what am I supposed to do. The only gender neutral things we found were in the boys section and the girls section only had pink and purple stuff. If I have a girl I'm not going to only dress them in pink and purple... what about all the other colours out there, what about red, and yellow and green... stepping off soap box now

I keep planning to take a new belly picture but I'm tired... maybe tonight.

Week 9 - I'm not fat

That's what I keep telling myself. The only other time my pants have started to feel too tight was when I gained weight, which I would then work at losing, lol. Luckily I am still fitting into my clothes and probably will for a few more weeks. Here I am at the end Week 9, most of that tummy is flab, but it is being pushed out by something...

We had our first doctor's appointment with the obstetrician yesterday. She is training a resident so the resident asked us lots of questions, medical history, and family history etc. The best part was when they said we can come back in 2 weeks and hear the heart beat! I think they also give me a full physical at that appointment too but I'm focusing on the positives.

We are going to out of town until Sunday so we will post again next week.

Hi Everyone. As most of you know Mike and I are expecting our first child in March of 2010. We are very excited about this and want to be able to share it with you. This blog is going to be an online journal of our lives and how our family evolves. We will share experiences and photos of things that are going on around here.

For now I'll just let you all know that I am doing fine and can't wipe this stupid grin off my face.
